About me

My full name is Jon Tamayo, born in Bilbao, Spain, 1987.

Since I was young, I've been interested in Videogames and the eco-system that surrounds them, known as the games industry. Got my first game console at the age of 3, and my first personal computer a couple of years after that. Since I have use of reason, videogames have played an important role in my life.

I've always wanted to be part of this games industry, attracted by the huge possibilities games bring for new forms of expression and content creation, from entire, enormous universes, to charismatic characters that will be remembered over the years to come. The possibility to interact with the stories making them living, changing entities, in which the player is one more piece, directly affected by and often the centre and engine of the the story itself.

But game designing goes further than just thinking a script, and telling a tale. Game mechanics and level designing have also been a prominent interest during my life. Since the early days, with my 8-bit game console, I could only dream about how to improve the different game systems in any of the games I played. "This is fun, this is not". With the age, came the experience, and what started as a mere childish discrimination became some quite thought theorization. I started discussing, first with my friends, then, when Internet arrived at my home, using mail lists, bulletin boards, and eventually writing my own articles about games theory, and creating a website for videogame reviewing.

At this point, I was studying Computer Application Development, finally decided to enter the industry in one way or another. Not being sure how to, I thought that knowing something about programming wouldn't make any harm, in any case. During this time, I was also contributing to the design of Argen Adapse © RPG, which will hopefully see the light in a not so distant future.

And finally, that moment I had been waiting all my life, just happened. I found a way, an opportunity, to enter the gaming industry, as a Community Manager for GOA Games Services Ltd. I worked in Warhammer Online - Age of Reckoning for over a year, and then moved to GOA.COM's Pangya, the Fantasy Golf game. Due to unforeseen circumstances, however, I had to leave in December 2009, back to the Iberian Peninsula.

I'm currently working as Spanish Community Manager for PokerStrategy.com, in Gibraltar.

Maybe this was not the path I imagined a couple of years ago, but definetely, even if I could, I wouldn't change these experiences for anything else.
