Not that long ago I played through Scratches again, as I hadn’t yet tackled the Director’s Cut with the alternate ending. The game still gives me the chills! In any case, it had me thinking of first person adventure games. Sadly there aren’t that many of them, Amnesia being probably the most notable title in these past years. Apparently, there’s not that much outside the horror genre in the makings, which it’s not what I would hope for, but I can see how the concept isn’t that easy to sell, anyway. Back in the days when RPGs and adventure games weren’t two completely different paradigms, you could get hybrids such as Legacy, but truth be told, they often lacked in the “adventuring” aspect when it came to puzzles and interaction with other NPCs. But I digress.
You see? Gone Home has somehow reactivated that line of thought. Wouldn’t it be awesome to have first person adventure games where the main mechanic doesn’t involve surviving in a horrible environment or killing things? We’ll see when this one comes out, I guess.
