If you had a childhood, then probably there's nothing I need to tell you about Quake. If you didn't, well, 1996 was a great year for videogames, mostly because of Quake. id software made the big jump to full 3D graphics on a first person shooter. And it was so amazing we're still getting Quake games more than 10 years afterward. Some people say Quake 2 was way better. I must say that it didn't have half of the ambiance and feeling the first one had.

Epic, I remember playing Quake II with two Voodoo II's and thinking that it was the very height of gaming extravagance.
I remember the first time I played Quake II. I had a TNT2 with 32MB of VRAM (top notch!) and when I burst the first alien and all the gory gibs appeared on the screen... man, I had never felt such visual pleasure before.
Of course, nowadays it looks like shit, but good shit nevertheless. You can still feel that even if the graphics are blocky, or even "crude", they did their best with the engine they had, which also happens to be the best engine that was around those days, heh.
But all this had already happened with the first Quake. And probably before, with Doom, but I didn't have it back then.
